popular and respected actors of his generation. A Brit who made his name and remains best known for playing a 21st century Sherlock Holmes on the

BBC Sherlock, all four series of which have brought him Emmy nominations and the second

of which brought him an Emmy win in 2014 and

who also has established himself as a star on the big screen in films ranging

from the imitation game for which he received a best actor Oscar nomination in 2015 to Dr Strange, the 2016 film in which he made

his debut as the eponymous Marvel superhero.

I'm talking of course about the subject of adoration and in some cases obsession from the

Cumber Collective, Sherlockians and many others Benedict Cumberbatch.

But first, with the 42nd Toronto International Film Festival moving into the rearview mirror,

having helped as always to clarify the race to the Oscars, I had the opportunity to sit down in Toronto
