become total.

The site of his beaten rivals for the nomination as presidential candidate appearing on

stage here at the convention,

one by one, from Ron DeSantis to Nikki Haley,

makes that point very, very clearly.

Just as yesterday, the nomination of J.D. Vance

as Trump's choice of vice presidential running mate,

a man more Trumpian than Trump himself, underlined that point

yesterday. What's also become crystal clear is that the strong, strong support of the party

faithful here at this convention for Donald Trump has crossed the line into something like

spiritual devotion. Since the assassination attempt at the weekend in Pennsylvania, Donald Trump,

he's been saying himself that the hand of God was what saved him from that sniper's bullet.

I spoke today to Trump's own pastor, and he put it in exactly the same way in terms of perfect

conviction and devotion. The forces here of Donald Trump, the Maga faithful,

they believe they are following the forces of light against the forces of darkness. And the

news today that intelligence agencies in America have uncovered an Iranian-backed plot to

assassinate Donald Trump has only strengthened that conviction.

They won't all see it that way on the other side of the Atlantic in the UK at Blenheim Palace
