with Ben Watson of Herman Miller about how design affects people who never even

think about design.

or I sat at my workplace for a long eight hour day

and my back is healthy rather than sore.

Although we may not be thinking of those things as the result of great design,

they are the result of great design.

Over the years, Herman Miller, the modern furniture manufacturer, has changed the way we work

and live.

The company is justly celebrated for working with some of the world's best designers and to bringing to the market

some of the iconic products of modern design.

How do you get to work at a place like that? Well, in Ben Watson's case, he seems to have spent

his career inadvertently preparing for his job as Herman Miller's executive creative director.

Ben Watson lives in Brooklyn,

commutes frequently to Michigan where Herman Miller has its main office,

and he has a cabin, but otherwise he works

in their satellite office in Manhattan.
