Summary

(#169 Replay). We're dipping into the archives for the next six weeks. ON THE WIND is on a new-episode hiatus until August 23, but we didn't want to leave you hanging for so long! So OTW host and founder Andy Schell has put together new intros for some of his favorite interviews of the past. Furthermore, all of these archive episodes have some kind of relevance in the present-tense. If you're new to the show, these are some of the best...if you're an old-hand, you'll love listening again!

--

We've also announced 5 new passages on FALKEN for 2023 - two in February in the UK, the very first trips on the new boat; one cruising the west coast of Iceland; and two more in October 2023 sailing Portugal to the Azores and back again! Those are open for booking now at 59-north.com/2023.

Join us at the Annapolis Boat Show for the SEAMANSHIP FOR OFFSHORE SAILING SEMINAR, hosted by Andy Schell & Nikki Henderson.

And join The QUARTERDECK! Check out our seamanship community platform at quarterdeck.59-north.com.

Good morning, friends. Andy here, your host of On the Wind. This is our second episode in a mini-series

0:06.7

where we're dipping into the archive between new episode seasons. I'm recording this from

0:12.1

the NAV station on Ice Bear. Still parked outside Bergen. We are getting ready to go to Sweden.

0:18.0

By the time you hear this, we'll be well on our way. So check out the map at 59-north.com. East Bjorn's on her way south from Svalbard, so you can track her there as well. I had dinner at August's house last night. It's really cool. Actually, Ice Bear is in East Bjorn's summer berth, which is a stone's throw, literally, away from August's house. If there wasn't a big

0:38.5

rock in the way, I could see it from here. I jogged over there yesterday while he was in town,

0:45.0

and he has a little gym set up in one of the barns. So I jogged over, worked out, jogged back.

0:50.6

It's only like a mile and a half from where the boat is. And then I went over and spent the

0:54.1

evening with him and Carolina and Amand, August's new son and one of Axel's sailing buddies.

1:00.4

It was really nice. I haven't seen August in a long time. He just got back from Svalbard where he

1:04.4

was sailing with James and Emma and some former East Bjorn crew up there. And it's just having, I came to Ice Bear from England where I'd

1:13.7

spent the week with Nikki and with Adam and now I'm here with August. And it's just so refreshing to be

1:20.2

face to face with the people on our team. And we have such an awesome team. I'm just like full,

1:25.1

I'm so inspired this week and full of enthusiasm for what's happening.

1:28.9

It feels like we're at this tipping point with getting the new boat ready, getting all these

1:33.0

different staff in Adam, who we'll talk to him later on the podcast, but he's basically going

1:39.0

to be the boat captain on Falcon and East Bjorn going forward, and we've got a lot of ideas

1:43.2

there, a lot of stuff

1:44.4

happening on the quarterdeck. It's just like, I almost can't contain my enthusiasm. So my point

1:48.4

is last night with August spending dinner, spending the evening at his house, having dinner,

1:52.7

and just chatting was just such a refreshment to talking to each other on the computer for so long.

2:00.1

So it was really, really nice to see August.

2:03.0

And I'm excited to get back to see.
