The regulation two guests today, Jeff Charlotte, will talk about his new book, The Undertoe,

a look at the forces driving historians fascism, who were both Jeff and I have chosen with care.

And then the historian Claire Dunning will talk about her book, Nonprofit Neighborhoods,

an investigation of how philanthropists and alike have shaped urban governance over the last six decades.

Jeff Charlotte is a journalist who's been covering religion in the right wing for two decades now.

He's also a professor of writing at Dartmouth.

Charlotte was the co-founder of two websites in religion, killing the Buddha and the Revealer.

The most famous of his eight books is The Family from 2008, a study of a secretive association of high-end Christian evangelicals.

He's now out with the Undertoe scenes from a slow civil war published by Norton.

It's a collection of essays on life in the Trump era.

Jeff and I discuss his change of heart in using the word fascism.

Like him, for years I thought the word was overdone, more an epithet than a tool of analysis.

Either the world has changed or I have.
