Summary
The original Calibre Bossnut first hit the market in 2015. Described by the press as "a hugely important mountain bike" with it's quality spec and very competitive price point, the Bossnut proved that a new bike doesn't have to cost multiple thousands of pounds. Since then the Calibre brand has grown, they have increased the team, won multiple awards and have some big name athletes riding their products. Although Calibre falls under the Go Outdoors banner it may come as a surprise to most that Calibre was actually started by todays podcast guest Mike Sanderson.
Mike Sanderson is the Calibre brand manager and is responsible for breaking down the entry level barrier to mountain biking. He developed the entire Calibre brand single handedly in the early days and on todays episode we discuss why he decided that mountain biking needed the Bossnut, how the brand has grown, what goes in to speccing/developing a £1000 full suspension mountain bike, take a look at the new 2020 Calibre Bossnut plus much more...

| 0:00.0 | What is up people and welcome back to episode number two of Behind the Bike on the Hookit podcast. Before we get |
| 0:08.2 | started on this episode, I want to first mention that these episodes are by no means meant to be |
| 0:13.0 | sales pitchers. They are not meant to favour one bike or brand over anything else on the market. |
| 0:19.1 | The objective of this series is to take you the listener behind the bike and introduce |
| 0:23.6 | you to some of the people who help bring these bikes to market, whether that's sales staff, |
| 0:28.6 | marketing folk, designers, engineers, pro riders, whoever. |
| 0:32.6 | It's about telling the story about how these bikes come to market and give you guys a bit more information |
| 0:37.7 | on who it is that's behind the scenes making this thing happen. It's also worth mentioning that if |
| 0:43.7 | you are looking to buy a new bike or a second-hand bike to do your own research, whether you're |
| 0:49.1 | going to spend £10,000, £1,000, anything in between, it's really difficult to buy a bad bike but |
| 0:56.8 | do your own research there's a lot of things you guys can use whether it's social media vlogs blogs |
| 1:02.6 | magazine reviews youtube videos speaking to people who own the same bike make sure that you buy the |
| 1:08.0 | right bike for you your riding style style, and most importantly, for your |
| 1:11.5 | budget. Speaking of budget, today's Behind the Bike podcast features the Calibur Bossnut. |
| 1:19.3 | I think Steve Jones formerly of Dirt said it best when he said, this is a hugely important |
| 1:24.4 | mountain bike. And I really wanted to get Mike Sanderson on the podcast. He's the |
| 1:29.2 | guy who started Calibur and although the Calibre brand falls underneath the Go Outdoors |
| 1:34.7 | banner and is sold in over 70 stores across the UK, the Calibur team is really, really small and |
| 1:40.9 | they are based right here in Sheffield, which I think is awesome. |
| 1:45.4 | The Calibaba Basnut came to market in 2015 and really upset the Apple Car. It's an entry-level |
| 1:51.1 | bike meant to get people involved in the sport and keep people involved in the sport. So this is a |
| 1:57.5 | cool conversation with Mike. We chat about how Calibur first came to fruition, |
