| 0:00.0 | assembling the front office. And I also want to group in the coaching staff. Surrounding yourself with competent, like-minded, yet not acquiescent football minds, not obsequious type of personnel who's going to just be like, yeah, you're right, do that. Now, people who are going to challenge you for the betterment of the franchise, for the betterment of the New York football giants. And I think bringing in Daibble is just example number one, right? You worked with him in Buffalo. You knew him very well. You guys are really good friends. You go out together. It's pretty cool. And it's definitely seemed to work out. He won coach of the year. But I also want to focus on the front office. Joe Shane ended up bringing in Brandon Brown from the Philadelphia Eagles to be his assistant general manager. And I feel like he's had a huge influence on what the New York Giants have done, kind of taking little bits of what Harry Roseman has done successfully with the Philadelphia Eagles and brought it to the New York Giants in terms of how they structure contracts in terms of void years in terms of things like that. But you also brought in guys like Chris Rossetti to help Tim McDonald, who was the nephew of John Mara. I believe he's the nephew of John Mara. So first, I should lay this out. The New York Giants over the last, ever since I've been covered in the team, ever since I've been a fan of this team, this has been a very nepotism type of organization, right? A very conservative type of organization that promotes from within that doesn't |
| 1:11.3 | really go outside of the box to bring in different minds, people who were not maybe raised by your |
| 1:16.6 | organization. So kudos to John Mera for breaking that mold after making the mistake of hiring |
| 1:21.7 | Dave Gettleman and going out and getting Joe Shane. But once Joe Shane got in here, he was able to do |
| 1:25.5 | what he had to do, the necessary moves to put the giants in a position for success by bringing in people like Chris Rossetti to be underneath Tim McDonald. And look at our pro personnel department. We talked about Nick McLeod, Isaiah Hodgins, Fabian, Marell, we talked about these guys. Those were excellent additions by the New York Giants that helped the Giants make the playoffs. I mean, the cornerback room itself was decimated. There was one point where I think it was like one cornerback on the roster. It was actually taking snaps during training camp and all those other players were identified by the pro personnel department. That is to McDonald. Again, that's somewhat nepotistic. I get it. But Chris Rossetti as well, who works under him, who's done an excellent job. Ryan Cowen, who the Giants just brought in. I believe he came from Tennessee. Dennis Hickey, who also, I think, work with Joe Shane back with the Miami Dolphins. I brought up Chris Rossetti. It's just this front office that you have did an excellent job this past season, identifying the pro personnel talent, but it's also making this New York Giants team a much more modern football |
| 2:17.8 | operation. And that's the issue that I think we had with Dave Gettleman and a lot of these |
| 2:22.4 | previous general managers. It just got really stale. And it was a organization that just kept |
| 2:27.8 | doing the same thing and the same thing over and over again. But now they kind of broke away |
| 2:31.5 | from that and they're trying different things, more modern things that successful franchises in the NFL are doing right now. And that's what this is, Dan. It's a copycat league. And it's just good that the Giants are finally copying the successful patterns and formulas that other teams have been using over the last decade because it just got to a point where we were like, what the hell is going on here? Why are we doing this? This is a move that you would do back in 1990, not in 2018. And so now I just feel like we have true adults who understand how to devise a plan that is going to be conducive to success right now. I wonder what you were referencing with that 1990 versus a 2018 thing. |
| 3:08.9 | I have no idea, man. |
| 3:09.6 | It was just random year I picked out of my mind. |
| 3:11.8 | Yeah. |
| 3:13.6 | But yeah, I think to your point, like this is not, yours is a little more of like ever |
| 3:18.7 | expanding and I think it's good to to include all that because to your point, like some |
| 3:23.0 | of these decisions they've made and the, and more importantly, like Joe Shane's willingness to defer some power to not have this be all about him to understand like this collective process has led to some big moments. I believe, and this is not confirmed, but I believe we've heard that Brandon Brown played a massive role in the decision to draft Daniel Bellinger, which we believe |
| 3:41.7 | is the best value pick they've made so far in this regime by a wide margin. And so you don't have him |
| 3:46.0 | in the mix, you maybe don't get that pick. And you just have one guy running the show, you don't |
| 3:50.1 | get that pick. So I think that's really important as well. For me, it was a little bit more narrow, |
| 3:55.1 | based. It was the decision to hire and empower Brian Daable. So for me, the biggest, there were tons of mistakes that went into the Dave Gettleman error, but by far the biggest one was he wasn't able to find and hire the right head coaches, head coach, let's just say, because if you get the right one, you don't need to keep going back to the well. And the most important thing I believe for a general manager is to hire |
| 4:14.4 | the right head coach. And I am so convinced that the Giants have hired the right head coach |
| 4:19.3 | because not only is Brian Daible in great offensive mind and I'm very, for me, my head coach is I |
| 4:25.6 | want good offensive minds in the mix because especially if you do it the other way, let's say Detroit |
