Summary

Journalist and author Batya Ungar-Sargon calls in to talk about the negative impacts she believes H-1B visa holders have on wages in STEM fields, arguing that they drive down salaries and deter Americans from entering these fields. She emphasizes the importance of prioritizing American workers for jobs, especially with the rise of AI and manufacturing opportunities. Ungar-Sargon also touches on broader immigration issues, asserting that increased immigration contributes to lower wages and higher costs of living for Americans. The conversation transitions to discussions about recent political races and candidates, with a critique of campaign strategies and outcomes. Learn more about your ad choices. The H-1B visa holders who come in here, they are not specialized. They have no talent. You know what their talent is, Megan? They're willing to work for $50,000 a year. Exactly. They have driven down the wages in STEM, which means that our brightest kids are not going into STEM because what are you going to do? Like, graduate after four years with student loans and take a job where you're making 50K? You're not going to do that. So we're actually driving our brilliant Americans out of STEM because we're importing Indians to do those jobs. It is so atrocious and terrible. And it is such a betrayal of the American worker. And this is a fight we absolutely

0:39.4

have to have right now, because Trump has done an amazing job of attracting, I think the number

0:45.6

at this point is about $15 trillion in manufacturing here. And everything around that, so much of that

0:52.6

is going to be AI training and AI work. And we need to

0:57.0

insist that every one of those jobs goes to an American. You know, again, like people ask me a lot,

1:02.3

what is the correct number of immigrants into America right now? And my answer is kind of the same,

1:07.2

Megan. It's somewhere close to zero. Like, it might not be zero. There maybe is another

1:11.9

Elon Musk out there who really wants to come here. But right now, we're just bringing in,

1:16.7

you know, bargain basement programmers. When those could be middle class jobs for American workers,

1:23.3

Americans who are struggling right now, why are so many people on food stamps? Why is,

1:29.5

why is healthcare so expensive? I mean, these are the questions we have to be having and the

1:34.7

affordability question is totally, totally inseparable from this question of immigration.

1:42.9

The fact that we have so many immigrants in this country

1:45.3

is a huge reason why Americans make so little and are struggling with basics like food.

1:50.9

If you think about it, Megan, every illegal immigrant in America is either working,

1:56.4

meaning they're driving down the wages in that industry, or they're living off the government,

2:01.1

meaning the American taxpayer is subsidizing them.

2:03.9

There's no in between, right?

2:05.4

They're not being funded by somebody in their home country to live here in America.

2:09.9

To my friend, Bacha Unger Sargan, she's on this show quite a bit.

2:13.5

I met her on the set, I believe last year, maybe the year before, a Brian Kilmead's

2:19.0

Fine Show One Nation. That audio was taken from her appearance on Megan Kelly's show yesterday.
