Summary

In this episode of Thick & Thin, we’re going back in time to the 1920’s prohibition in America to uncover secrets and intriguing parallels found between that era and modern times. I also discuss underground parties, gangsters, risky alcohol allegedly made in bathtubs, and just how far people will go to maintain a sense of normalcy. // Follow me on IG: instagram.com/katybellotte / SOURCES: https://www.thecut.com/2020/11/nyc-underground-nightlife-covid-19.html https://www.pbs.org/kenburns/prohibition/unintended-consequences/ https://www.history.com/news/10-things-you-should-know-about-prohibition “Last Call: The Rise and Fall of Prohibition" by Daniel Okrent (a book) Learn more about your ad choices. 0:19.9

with a wine glass full of not alcohol full of a mocktail situation. I'm drinking this

0:27.8

stuff called Sweet Reason Evening Blend it's like a CBD infused sparkling like tea drink sort of thing

0:35.2

So freaking good. I post about this on Instagram. You guys know I love it. So I'm drinking this instead of my usual wine or dirty martini situation that's typical for me because I'm

0:46.2

taking a little break with alcohol or a break from alcohol I suppose because Thanksgiving

week and just like last weekend I was just really

0:55.0

you know put my mouth to the bottle in the literal sense I was drinking a lot of

0:59.8

wine I've like gotten a newfound affinity affinity for wine over quarantine. I mean I've always

1:05.2

loved wine but I've never really had a full appreciation of it until I

1:09.9

suppose like maybe I guess maybe like last year even when I went abroad to Italy and

1:14.4

went on all these like wine tours and things I was never like fully obsessed with

1:18.1

it but now I'm like very into it I'm turning into a snob so I need to take a

1:22.4

little break to a little step back

1:24.3

from alcohol.

1:25.0

So I'm drinking this like mocktail situation.

1:27.4

But it's in a wine glass, so it kind of, you know,

1:29.3

feels like it's still classy and all. So I'm just sitting here sipping my beautiful non-alcoholic

1:36.2

beverage which is ironic considering today's episode of thick and thin is all about

1:41.2

alcohol. We're talking about prohibition in America today, which

1:45.2

is really interesting. I actually a few days ago was on Reddit and I saw a post that was kind of

1:50.0

declaring like it's been 87 years since the end of prohibition in America like

1:55.4

87 years as of December 5th because prohibition was ended on December 5th
