Welcome to the Sports Motivation Podcast. It's your host, Nees Showbo. Today, I'm breaking down an excerpt from a book that I've been reading. It's taking me a little longer than I want, but it's a great book, great book, and it's actually two books in one. But this book is called My Life in Advertising, and it's by Claude C. Hopkins, and he is an OG advertiser, what many would call one of the goats in the advertising game

0:29.2

in terms of copywriting, in terms of advertising, marketing, et cetera, widely regarded as a true

OG.

0:37.8

All right.

And there's an excerpt from his book where he's talking about some of his early influences and, you know, things his mother taught him, etc.

That I want to read, and I think it's very important because it drives home a very important point that we all must remember, especially in this day and age

1:26.6

or a Sunday not occupied by work.

1:30.2

I am not advising others to follow my example. I would not advise a boy of mine to do so.

1:36.9

Life holds so many other things more important than success that work in moderation probably brings more joy.

1:47.0

But the man who works twice as long as his fellows is bound to go twice as far, especially in advertising. One cannot get around that.

1:54.9

There is some difference in brains, of course, but it is not so important as the difference in

1:59.9

industry. And by industry, he means

2:02.1

hard work. The man who does two or three times the work of another learns two or three

2:07.2

times as much. He makes more mistakes and more successes, and he learns from both. If I have

2:14.8

gone higher than others in advertising or done more, the fact is not due to exceptional

2:19.3

ability but to exceptional hours.
