Welcome to the Sports Motivation podcast. This is your host, Niyu Shobo. And today is another episode of bars. And it happens to be from one of my favorite books. You've heard me mention it a lot. It's called Hagakoure, The Secret Wisdom of the Samurai. And I have in my hand here the version that is translated by Alexander Bennett, but there are other translations

as well. And I say that because this is a classic, classic book. So written nearly 300 years ago,

all right? And it basically summarizes the essence or the mindset of the Japanese samurai.

All right.

So here on the back of the book, it says,

Hagakure is one of the most influential

of all Japanese texts.

And there's a lot of classics.

All right, so this summarizes the mindset of a warrior.

And I would hope that you consider yourself some degree of warrior,

right? Meaning you might not be under the same type of pressure as an actual warrior, someone

who puts their life on the line. But I would hope that you approach your work, your sport

with a degree of that same urgency.

So I want to read you something from here.

And I don't know if you consider this controversial or not, but let's break this down piece by piece because I really enjoy the mindset of Samarize.

And it's actually a lot different than what you'll read in a lot of...

That's one thing I love about ancient texts is a lot of the things that you'll read,

even like the Art of War, like Hagakure, some other philosophical sort of text.

They say things that you wouldn't read in a normal, you know, sort of,

what's the word, self-help book. And I enjoy that. All right. So take a listen. He says, make up your

mind to boldly advance without hesitation whenever your honor as a samurai is at stake otherwise you will not fix the problem
