What we want to talk about today is inspired by the much, much,

hyped movie, Barbie, the film.

Distributed by Warner Brothers, and it's about Barbie the Doll and Ken.

And has some kind of half-serious, half-sardonic plot.

I will confess readily right here at the outset I have not seen it.

I do not know if I will see it.

But the whole idea of Barbie and Ken.

And what they represent to me is a fascinating one.

And it says so much about the United States in any given moment of time.

So what we want to talk about today is dolls of various sorts.

And the larger messages that they do or don't send.

And Barbie will be a part of this story.

One of the things that jumps out to me about this topic, actually two things.

First of all, I feel like an intelligent Martian on this because I never owned a Barbie.

I never played with Barbies.

In fact, I don't even know very much about dolls.
