Two landmark rulings today from the US Supreme Court that will affect just about every

aspect of political life in America for decades to come. First on gerrymandering

the tactic that state legislatures use to draw often bizarrely shaped safe political

districts to advantage their own party. The court said in a five to four decision

that federal courts must stay out of disputes over politicians going too far and drawing

district lines for parties and gain.

It means more districts that are safe for one party or another and more extreme politics in Congress. The court also ruled on key

questions over next year's national census. It blocked, for now, the Trump administration's

attempt to ask every responder
