that's the forever clarion cry of the modern day Olympic organizers who treat these

competing forces like a pair of magnets forever repelling each other. But despite repeated efforts to keep them apart, politics and sport

have a tendency to want to mingle. The modern games may appear to be built on politically independent foundations but a quick thumb through

their past and you'll find propaganda, nationalism, cheating, terrorism and murder.

In 1936 Adle Fitler used the games as a backdrop for his vision of white racial

supremacy only to have the Black Jesse Owens smash it to pieces.

In 1972, the Black September Terror Group took athletes hostage and killed 11 Israelis and a police officer.

Throughout the history of the games there have been boycotts, counter boycotts and countless moments of geopolitical tension.

The Olympics then has always despite its protestations been politically charged.

So is Paris 2024 going to be any different?
