What about messages have you received about sex?

I could name several I've heard through the years, and so could you.

Unfortunately, both secular sources and the church can lead us away from understanding

God's design for sex and marriage.

While we want to combat the lies and myths about

sex out there, the best place to start is in here with ourselves. How can we replace error

with truth, objectification with empowerment, a focus on the physical with a focus on intimacy?

Our best weapon is God's word, and it's often wielded in our own minds. That is, what do you say to

yourself about sex? Have you challenged the lies and myths you unwittingly absorbed? If not,

it's time. Today, think about one bad message you've internalized about sex, and then find a

positive statement or verse that counteracts it. Rehears that statement or verse so that you have it

at the ready when the mental or emotional battle to reclaim godly sexuality begins. For instance, if you struggle

with body image, remind yourself that Psalm 13914 says you're fearfully and wonderfully made.

If you worry that God wants to punish you for past sins, consider Colossians 2.13 and 14 says that

he forgave all our sins and canceled our debt.

If you think that sex is for your husband more than for you, remember that the wife and

Song of Songs 2.5 called herself lovesick.

Yep, that's right.

She had a God-approved desire to be romantic and sexual with her

husband. Consider whatever messages you've heard and embraced. And if any of them don't jive with

God's intent for sex, actively replace them with a fresh message, one that helps you see
