From Wundry, I'm Laura Beel, and this is a special episode of Dr Death. The Between 2011 and 2016, Dr. Paulo MacYerini was considered a pioneer in the field of tissue engineering. He was one of the first

doctors to implant a lab-grown organ, a trachea, into a patient, and he did it nearly a dozen times.

But this miracle didn't last long because it wasn't a miracle at all.

One by one, many of his patients suffered excruciating pain and died.

We spoke with the whistleblowers at Carolinska Institute in Sweden who were instrumental

in exposing Dr. MacYereini.

So this guy has been doing experiments on human beings without ethical approval and

there is no bigger and no no in medicine you cannot do that.

K. I was mentioning our names in a very critical manner.

Speaking that we actually were just jealous researchers that were not that successful as

Paolo and that this was just a conflict.

If I had to choose between Paolo MacYerini's plastic trachea and a bullet in the back of the

head I'd take the bullet any day of the week.
