Hi everybody. Thank you for listening to the women's dating and confidence podcast. My name is Amber,

0:15.7

and today I'm going to be talking about accepting negative emotion instead of resisting it.

0:24.0

So often when negative emotion arises in our life, we resist it so strongly and it just perpetuates it. So imagine having some

0:32.5

anxiety in the morning. That's normal. That can happen. But then you have some thoughts like, oh my gosh, I can't

0:39.6

believe I'm feeling this again. I thought I was over this. This is never going to stop.

0:44.1

What is wrong with me? Nobody else is going through this. And as you're thinking about that,

And there are two main things that can really help with this. The first thing is something that I

1:41.3

learned from my mentor, Dr. Aziz, and it's a coaching tip,

1:45.6

which is when a client is in a really negative, pessimistic state to not try and cheer them up.

1:54.3

Because have you ever felt that way like you felt really depressed? You felt really drained.

1:59.1

You felt really discouraged. And somebody was like,

2:02.2

oh, just think positive. Just change your mindset. Just think about it this way. Don't feel bad.

2:06.8

Don't feel bad. And you're like, I can't. Like, I just feel this way and I can't make it go away.

2:13.9

And the more somebody tries to cheer you up, the more you feel like they don't understand you,
