For eight years, Sherry Ballard has been an outspoken advocate for her family at rallies and court dates searches and

somber anniversaries she has always used her voice to keep her daughter and

husband's names top of mind.

I've done dozens of interviews with Sherry over the last decade,

so it was different when she told me for the first time

she had to stay quiet. The prosecutor and detectives didn't want her doing any

interviews after the arrests in her daughter's case, and she respected that, until the seven-year mark of her husband's case rolled around, a case that is

I met Sherry at her house right outside of Bardstown. It was a nice November day, so we decided to take advantage of the sunshine and set up two chairs in her backyard.

The memories can be painful, but now they're all she has.

She remembers standing in the kitchen with her husband,

watching leaves fall from the big tree right outside the window. It was an annual autumn
