Summary

In this episode we discuss the Great Barnum Museum Fire. In the mid 1800s, it was unthinkable to visit New York City without a visit to Barnum’s American Museum. P.T. Barnum’s stunning building occupied a prominent corner on Lower Broadway at the corner of Ann Street from 1841 to 1865. Its massive size and impressive appearance was rivaled only by the wonders within. but on July 13, 1865 the American Museum burned to the ground in one of the most spectacular fires New York has ever seen.

0:54.9	I've been in my department for, we've been in the job for 20 years, never heard about this thing.
0:59.2	I think, you know, I've been getting a lot of emails from people, which I love.
1:03.0	I'm going through each one at best I can, even, you know, right back to you guys.
1:07.3	But I think somebody had originally said something about this and it kind of sparked my interest
1:14.4	and then I started researching the thing and then I couldn't even believe what the heck I was researching
1:18.6	that you know I've been in the city for you know growing up my whole life for God's sakes and then
1:24.1	to be in the fire department and not know anything about this I mean everybody knows everybody knows about P.T. Barnum, but you don't know how he started.
1:31.2	And this is really like where, that's the building right there that Pete Schoen.
