for Monday, October 20th. We start with an update on the Amazon Web Services outage.

The company says it's cloud services, which power some of the world's most popular apps and customer data sites,

are recovering after ongoing connectivity issues.

But some problems have persisted as companies across sectors were impacted,

including the U.S. Army, the NFL, and Disney. And one expert said the financial impact of today's

disruption could total hundreds of billions of dollars. CNN's Claire Duffy explains why the impact

has been so widespread. Sits at the heart of so much of the internet.

Now, whereas businesses used to run their own servers, computers to operate their online services,

now millions of businesses rent that server space from Amazon Web Services.

This is more affordable, it's easier for businesses, as long as Amazon doesn't have an outage like it did today.

The company hasn't formally identified the source of the issue,

but it's investigating a particular network that allows customers to build cloud-based applications

and then adjust the amount of computing needed to power them.
