Summary

We first discuss Dolores Huerta and Cesar Chavez in light of revelations that he was a sexual predator. We check in on how we’re feeling and acknowledge the bravery of Dolores Huerta and all survivors of sexual assault. After that, we’re joined by Mirtle Peña-Calderón and Ashley K. Stoyanov Ojeda, who created The Book of Awesome Latinas to celebrate the powerful legacy of Latinas across generations. We talk about how this project came together, what they discovered while researching these incredible women, and why documenting Latina stories matters now more than ever. is a guest on the show. We're not going to go in it too deeply because I don't think we're here

1:22.7

to report the news, but I do think that it's important for us, you know, not to just move past it, right?

And so Brenda, I'd like to start with you if you want to tell me a little bit about your reaction

1:35.1

to this news.

2:02.5

So that was already the first sign that, okay, that something very serious is coming down.

2:08.4

And then the next day, I see Dolores Puerta from her official Instagram account,

2:15.5

sharing with the world, the audience is a secret that she had kept

2:19.7

for over 60 years, which is that she had been sexually assaulted, coerced into sex and raped
