Hello and welcome to episode 354 of AvTalk. I am Ian Petchanick here as always with

0:17.4

Jason Rabinowitz. Hello, Ian. It is so nice to be back recording on our normal time,

0:23.8

our normal date in what feels like over a month. Yes, yes. It's been a while since we got back

0:30.6

on schedule. But here we are back on schedule. And as we recorded early last week, of course, of course, news broke pretty much as soon

0:42.0

as we had hit stop on the recording. And then also on Wednesday, which is our normal recording

0:47.4

day, which we would have been able to talk about had we recorded.

0:50.4

That's fine. I was on vacation. I was not concerned with any of that at that point. But I had a

0:56.3

nice time. It was good. I'm glad to hear it. And I'm glad you're back. And we've got plenty to

1:02.7

talk about. So let's dive in. This week, we begin in the middle of nowhere, literally. We begin in no FIR, because that is one of the

1:29.7

Yes, there's a wash of notems issued by the FAA with caution that hazardous conditions may exist

1:39.4

due to GPS interference and military aircraft operating at commercial flight levels without active

1:45.5

transponders. And while this is not new and while it has previously included a large

1:52.9

section of airspace, this includes a lot of airspace. This includes one of the Mexican FIERS, two of the Mexican FIERS, the Mexico

2:04.4

FIR, the Mazatlan FIR, the Central American FIR, the Ponima FIR, the Bogota FIR, the Guayaquil

2:12.1

FIR, and no FIR one, which is the area in the Northern Pacific that is not claimed nor administered by any

2:22.2

air traffic control, which is super interesting in its own right. And we should absolutely do a

2:28.7

full podcast segment on the no FIR. I've been actually working on a blog post for far too long. So this is a good

2:36.0

impetus to finish said post so that we can really talk about this. But no air traffic

2:41.2

control is offered within that airspace in the Northern Pacific. Is this the one that's off

2:46.6

the west coast of like Peru and Panama? Who even flies there? Are there any actual fights in that
