Summary

On this week’s episode of AvTalk, a Nouvelair flight almost lands on top of an easyJet A320 in Nice. In Aalborg, Copenhagen, and Oslo, reported drone sightings put a halt to flights. And we spend a lot of time in the low cost segment of the industry with fresh bad news for Spirit Airlines, Frontier’s CEO hitting back at United’s CEO and Ryanair’s move to all-digital boarding passes. Plus, Jeremy Dwyer-Lindgren and Jason are back from their schnitzel-stop tour of European low-cost carriers to fill us in on the state of long-haul, low-cost across the Atlantic.

Hello and welcome to episode 338 of AvTalk. I am Ian Petchnik here as always with

0:15.6

Jasoner Rabinowitz. Hello. I have finally kicked my jet lag. And you could probably hear it in my voice a little bit.

0:22.2

I'm feeling a little bit lighter, a little bit bouncier, more with it.

0:26.5

More airy.

0:27.7

Yep.

0:28.2

A happy Wednesday to you, sir.

0:30.1

Thank you, I guess.

0:31.7

Apparently it's drone season.

0:33.0

We are recording on Wednesday, September 24th, and this week has been seeing drones everywhere

0:41.2

you turn week.

0:44.0

Currently, there are reported drone sightings over Allborg in Denmark.

0:49.9

This follows earlier reported sightings of drones over Copenhagen and Oslo. Now, no one's actually

0:59.4

confirmed that these are drones to the best of our knowledge at the moment. Authorities are

1:05.5

treating this extremely seriously. Police have been involved. The national authorities have

1:10.1

been involved. There is video

1:12.4

evidence from Copenhagen, though it is rather inconclusive as to what it shows. There's also

1:19.4

the mildly complicating factor of a general aviation aircraft flying pretty much at the same time that the drones were first reported in Copenhagen.

1:30.4

So that might be playing into how this all got started, but that doesn't really explain

1:35.7

Oslo or Olberg.

1:36.7

But it's definitely becoming very, very, very annoying that these events keep happening and are leading to lots of canceled

1:47.0

flights, lots of diverted flights, and just headaches all around whether or not these are

1:53.5

actually drones or just drone sighting reports.
