Multinational beach landings cap largest ever Talisman Saber drills in Australia.

Showwater Bay Training Area Australia, Dateline,

Overcraft Pact with Troops and Armored Vehicles, zoomed onto a beach during the culminating event

of Talisman Saber. A massive exercise involving 30,000 mostly American or Australian troops

on the southern continent. The drills conclude after two weeks of training on land, air, sea,

cyber and space capabilities by more than a dozen allied and partner militaries including

those of European and Pacific nations. The closing ceremony will be in Brisbane. Scott,

I come to you because this is a celebration of men and women taking risks with very large

equipment, anticipating big trouble in the Pacific. This is all about the threat by the people's

Republic of China. But in the meantime, there was a tragedy, the loss of four young Australian

men in a helicopter. What happened?

Oh, John, get a just terrible shocking during an Operation Talisman Saber. It was a joint

military exercise. We're not sure exactly how many nations were involved in this particular one.

But we do know two choppers were working together in tandem. One of them was completely Australian.

It happened while the US Secretary of State, Anthony Blinken, was visiting here.
