Good morning, everyone. I'm Playbook co-author, Ryan Liza. It's Monday, August 7th. Here's what we're

watching today. There's a big deadline in Trump's Washington, D.C. criminal case. That comes at

5 o'clock today. Here's the backstory. On Friday, prosecutors asked U.S. District Court

Judge Tanya Chutkin to issue a protective order concerning evidence in the case,

and Trump has until 5 p.m. today to respond to the government's request. On Sunday, Trump's lawyer

suggested that he and his client would oppose the government's requests, saying that the Biden

administration was trying to hide nonsensitive information from the press.

What's going on here in the background, of course, is Trump and his team are trying to slow this

process down, while Jack Smith and prosecutors are trying to get a speedy trial off the ground.

Now, note, one interesting wrinkle in all of this is what the judge decided.

Trump's team over the weekend asked for an extension beyond today, and Judge Chutkin said,

nope, got to do it by 5 o'clock on Monday. This might not be all that meaningful, but it could signal

that this judge means business in terms of wanting this trial without delay.

These kinds of extensions are routinely granted, but she denied it in this case.

There are a lot of other things to watch this week when it comes to Trump and his legal woes.

On Sunday, Trump's lawyer, John Loro, and Trump himself, both saying that they

will be filing a brief requesting a recusal of the judge and a venue change. They've been

telegraphing these requests for a while, but they say they're going forward this week. A big caveat,

as Kyle Cheney and Josh Gerstein have pointed out repeatedly over the last week,

it is very unlikely that either of these requests will be granted.

And that leads us to the other big thing in Trump legal news today,

how his mounting indictments and trials are increasingly intertwined.
