Summary
I’m walking along the north coast of Sicily, between Capo d’Orlando and Brolo, to the accompaniment of some chirruping cicadas. Along the way, a rather fancy yacht marina and the ghostly peaks of the Aeolian islands. Sicily is the essence of the Mediterranean, and a gorgeous distillation of Italy.

| 1:56.4 | full of surprises and to my right there's a single track intercity rail network and a lizard had just |
| 2:04.5 | scurried across the path in front of me the main line from palermo to Rome goes through here |
| 2:13.7 | and you might be thinking hang on i've got a mental map and there cannot be a railway line from Palermo to Rome because there's a bit of sea, |
| 2:22.1 | the strait of Messina in the way, and you'd be quite right. |
| 2:26.3 | But I think this is the last remaining train line on which the train goes onto a ferry to take you across to Reggio Calabria |
| 2:38.3 | on the mainland. Everything that you could want from a holiday is here in Sicily, including |
