to Point Comfort in what was then the British colony of Virginia on August 20th, 1619. The White Lion, an English ship, drifted into the port's docks.

On board were about 20 men and women who'd been violently abducted from their homes in the kingdom of

Ndongo in Angola. After disembarking, the English met with George Yardley, the governor of the colony

of Virginia. They told them they were in desperate need of food and supplies, but they didn't

have the money to pay for it. Instead, the crew sold the men and women to Yardley for the price of some provisions.
