Summary

Support Lorenzo on Patreon.com PROGRAM NOTES: Tangier, 1957. William Burroughs is creating Naked Lunch in the port city where traditional hashish preparations flow as freely as mint tea, and every transaction crosses cultural boundaries. Through the eyes of a young Moroccan fixer who navigates between worlds we witness the birth of ideas that would reshape consciousness and art. This is the untold story behind the famous line "language is a virus": a tale of how traditional North African wisdom practices intersected with experimental American writing, how words spread through cultural networks like contagions, and how the most revolutionary ideas often travel through the most ancient channels. Fiction grounded in research and respect, "Majoun & Manuscript" explores what happens when consciousness expansion meets cultural appropriation, when preservation becomes violation, and when a young translator must choose between using language to control or to protect. This is Lorenzo and I'm your host here in the Psychedelic Salon.

So, well, I've obviously gone back on what I said before about retiring from these podcasts.

I could give you a dozen reasons why I'm back, but the truth is simple.

0:41.3

for me it's much more than that.

0:43.3

Over the years, I've come to feel that a very real connection with you exists

0:47.3

out there on the other end of these words,

0:50.3

and missing that connection is what pulled me back.

0:53.3

So when I stepped away from this microphone, I thought it was time to leave the space and missing that connection is what pulled me back.

So when I stepped away from this microphone,

1:00.8

I thought it was time to leave the space to the new generation of podcasters.

1:03.8

There are so many bright young voices out there right now who are carrying the torch forward

1:05.7

that I figured that the salon had already done its part

1:08.6

in preserving some of the early history of this so-called psychedelic resurgence.

1:13.6

But the more I thought about it, the more I realized that there still was something missing.

1:18.6

You see, the early days of this resurgence weren't being recorded and digitized the way things are now.

1:24.6

Whole pieces of our story, moments, movements, experiments,

1:29.3

they all risk being forgotten as the last few living connections to these stories fade away.

1:35.3

So I'm rebooting this as Salon 3.0, and its focus will be about filling in some of those gaps.
