Summary

Popular “Garage Country” singer-songwriter Aubrie Sellers joins Music Matters host Darrell Craig Harris for an engaging conversation about her new single and upcoming album Attachment Theory in this fun new episode! About Aubrie Sellers  "I feel like I'm film in a digital world," says 27-year-old singer-songwriter Aubrie Sellers. "There are so many slick, clean-sounding records that are designed for quick consumption, but that's not me. I make dirty, grungy-sounding records, and the emotions spill all over the place. They're messy at times, but I find beauty in that." For anybody who's ever felt as if they didn't quite fit in, Sellers' masterful second album, Far From Home, the follow-up to her sensational debut, New City Blues, is essential listening. Sonically, it's a sweeping, epic vision made manifest in crushing, amp-busting guitar rock - Sellers once dubbed this sound "garage country" - and delicate yet shattering widescreen ballads that form compelling frameworks for her angelic voice to take flight. One might assume that such fulsome musical expressions could only come from a grand extrovert, but Sellers reveals the deep-seated anxieties that lie beneath the surface - and how writing the album proved cathartic. Aubrey Sellers, how are you doing today? And how are you?

0:23.6

I'm very good. So you are a very busy lady. You have a new single out, Little Rooms, a single end video with videos really cool. I just was checking that out. The new album, Attachment Theory, comes out actually this week, March 20th, which I think it's Friday, right? That's right. I'm very excited. I can't believe it's finally here. It feels like it takes forever to do everything behind the scenes and then all of a sudden it's out. All this work and that it's fine like, here's my baby. I'm presenting it to the world. Exactly. So you're in Nashville. Are you kind of born and raised in Nashville? Yep. born here. My family's from Texas. And I am an official Texas citizen as well.

0:59.9

Oh, okay. But yeah, I'm from Nashville. And the only time I've moved away was for a few years to

1:05.5

California, which was fun. But then I came back during COVID times. And I've been back since then.

1:10.2

Yeah. And I live in Vegas. And Nashville is, it's like Vegas in some ways that once you

1:15.0

live there, it's really hard to live anywhere else, right?

1:17.2

Yes, absolutely.

1:18.9

So obviously, songwriting with you is a big part of what you do, but also you have such a cool

1:24.1

voice.

1:25.0

And I saw you got kind of tagged as garage country, which I wanted to ask you about that as well.

1:31.4

But talk about this album coming up and the songs because they're all kind of very story-driven, it seems.

1:38.2

Absolutely.

1:38.8

Yeah.

1:38.9

This is kind of my first concept record called Attachment Theory.

1:42.4

And there's actually a podcast that goes with it because

1:44.9

it's all about relationships and psychology and all of, you know, dissecting people's

1:51.6

personalities and all of that has been something I've been interested in for a long time. And

1:55.6

I first heard the term attachment theory when I was probably 20 or 21, so a long time ago.

2:00.5

And it's been kind of

2:02.0

in the back of my mind and something that I, you know, read and studied. And then after a painful
