What's up at the gardeners? Kevin here welcome back to another episode. Today we're going to talk about

Attracting birds to your garden. How do you do this? Why should you do this and what are some of the benefits. So the reason why I am covering this is

because when I went over to my friend Stephen's Farm he runs a farm called

Nature's Always Right and he named it that because he believes that if you study

natural systems and see how they work and then seek to replicate those in your

garden, you can gain a lot of benefits. and one natural system that is all around us all the time

are birds and what birds eat. Now in his garden he has a quarter acre market garden so what

he's growing he actually needs to be

super high quality because he's selling it every single week to farmers markets and

restaurants and so what he told me is he has birds that come in because he's growing a lot of

brascas right now and brascas are pest and disease-prone. He's growing a lot of

brascas and he said that his birds, the bird population in his area is just

munching up any pests and so I said you know what that's fascinating and how do we

get more birds in our gardens if we don't live in an area that, let's say, has a natural bird population.

He's in an area where the trees surrounding his property are already nesting areas for birds,

and so he didn't really have to do a whole lot to get

birds in the garden. Now it's easy to get birds in your garden though. So birds really

aren't very far from mature trees.

They are, if you have mature trees in your area,

there's going to probably be some sort of bird population,

but if not, what should we do?
