Clement Attley, leader of the Labour Party, became Prime Minister.

He took control of a war-ravaged Britain, a crippled crippled economy and an employment crisis as millions of soldiers sought to return to the workforce.

Right now, the contrast in Starwood between the two leaders of Britain's major political parties,

Clement Attley and Winston Churchill,

couldn't have been starker.

But perhaps again like now,

the country had also emerged from crisis

in the mood for some quite radical change

when it came to how society was shaped.
