Amateur Traveler episode 611. Today the Amateur Traveler talks about beaches, an iconic

art museum running with the bulls and what may be one of the oldest languages in Europe

as we go to the Basque region of Spain.

Welcome the amateur traveler. I'm your host Chris Christensen. With no further ado, let's talk about the Basque region of Spain.

I'd like to welcome to the show David Bumstead and I would say David Bumstead

from and yet that's where it gets complicated I found out in the pre-interview here.

David you're originally from England but you haven't lived there for more than 35 years and now call the Basque region of Spain your home.

Yeah, that's right. I haven't lived there.

In fact, for more than 40 years.

I sort of left England when I was about 18, went to Wales, and then by some fruit chance I

ended up here in the vast country and I've lived here for 35 years.

Well, and it is indeed the Basque country of Spain that we've invited David to come and talk about.

And when we say the Basque region of Spain, where are we talking about

on the border with France near the Basque region of France, which is sort of the southwest corner of France and the northwest corner of Spain.

It's on the Bay of Biscay near the Pyrenees, sort of tucked in the corner where Spain and France

meet in the Bay of Biscay.

And we should probably do just a little bit of time when we say Basque.

We're talking about a different people with a different language with a longer heritage than Spanish.

The Basks for many, many years argued that their language was one of the original languages of Europe and they couldn't really prove it but

in recent years after people have done investigations and things like that trying to find
