This is the famous 30-meter telescope known affectionately as the TMT. Bob, the word hope

appears. Is it real? No. This is science, the correct world, making believe that all

as well, when all is not well. The long story of the 30-meter telescope, which is supposed

to start construction almost seven years ago and has been blocked by protesters, basically

a power grab by those protesters. Those protests are succeeded in that power grab in the last

few years because what happened is the Hawaiian government decided to take management

away of all the telescopes on the monarchy here from the University of Hawaii and the

academia and handed over to what they called a newly created board made up of, quote, observatory

representatives, native Hawaiian cultural, practitioner practitioners, local business and education

officials and experts in land management. It's kind of like a committee that made a camel,

you know. And they're in charge now of all the telescopes. They're going to take over

the next few years control of all the management of all the telescopes on top of monarchy. And

they, as a board, are there's enough on them that are generally hostile to the number

of telescopes. They want at least three more removed. And so will they allow a new one

being built? It's a little unclear. They seem to sound like they do want to allow TMT
