Welcome to Manager Tools. Today's topic, Assign Work and Reporting. Today we talk about assigning both the reporting

of work and the work itself when delegating. Here we go. Oh, Well if you're not a manager you might be surprised what us managers think

about it when we assign work to our directs.

They may be surprised about a lot of things.

Yeah, that's true.

If you're not a manager, you probably assume, hey, you gave me the work, I know it's mine, I'll do it, it's my my job after all easy to be him or her right

Way easier to be a manager right yeah absolutely he just gives away the work and we have to do it yeah yeah

Yeah and fortunately that's not always what we assume. Even with top performers, right? I mean, there are times when we're on the hook for it. We don't give away work that we're not unhooked for.

And, you know, and by the way, the proof of this is the high C managers, the perfectionist managers who do it themselves, right?

And if it really was easy to give a work away, to trust the people who work for you all the time,

to know that they would do it well enough,

or the worst standard in the world as good as me,

if we knew that, we'd give away more work, right?

Yeah, but managers don't.

That's a great point. Yeah's a great point, right?

So those who do give it away, you know, they think things like,

will you get done?

Can you do it?

Will you do it well?

You know, will they do it on time? How am I going to do it well? Will they do it on time?

How am I going to know the status between now and when it's due?

I don't want to get to the very end and find out that it's not done or it's five days late on a five day task.
