Dr. Kim segment where people submit their questions for Dr. Kim Kim, and he answers them.

Thanks for listening. Today I'm asked Dr. Kim, we got the question, what should we do to prepare for

marriage? You know, I'm getting married in six months and we want to prepare. So I love this. I love that this person wants to prepare for marriage because it is something

that you should do. You shouldn't just jump into it. So Dr. Kim, what can they do? You know,

they're six months out of marriage. They're engaged. What should they be doing now?

That's a great question. Because I think one of the problems that we see is we don't prepare for marriage very well.

You know, a lot of times, you know, I've heard the analogy so many times if you're going to have a career, you go to school for all these years.

And sometimes after you get through, you don't understand that career very long.

You do other things. pairing, you know, and you, you wouldn't go to a doctor that hadn't been to med school,

you know, let them start cutting on you or something. And so with marriage, it's like,

oh, we're sweet and everything about it and we're so in love and we just get married and it's going to be wonderful. And then we've got a 50% divorce rate. So we know, you know,

actually my dissertation was from a PhD was a study on couples that took premarriage counseling, premarriage courses,

and couples who did not comparing that. And we ran it over a seven-year span of couples

for seven years of them read after that. And our divorce rate was at that point was less than 10%

out of those couples in premarital counseling. So with that study that we did, other studies that I've read,

premarity counseling makes a difference.

And I think it's not that you remember everything that goes on in there,

but you remember there's always an answer and there's always hope

whatever we go through.

And you learn to communicate better.

You learn to do conflict better.
