Thanks for listening. So today on the Ask Dr. Kim segment of the Awesome Marriage podcast,

someone submitted kind of like a real personal question. So I'll just kind of like read it out to you guys.

And it says, my mother-in-law is constantly telling me things that she won't tell my husband.

And she says not to tell him, mostly things about my husband, like how he hurt her feelings, etc.

What am I supposed to do in this situation? So very interesting, you know, when your mother-in-law is telling you things or anyone in your

family is telling you things and telling you to withhold it from your spouse.

Dr. Kim, is it okay to keep secrets from your spouse if it's like their family telling you to do it?

What do you think?

Well, I think the answer is no, but I think it's such a bigger picture of you don't really

understand that family dynamics of your spouse's family until you get into it.

And it may not even happen that first year of marriage.

Everybody may stay on good behavior for a while, but eventually all the craziness comes out.

So and maybe that you've married into a family that does.

I mean, I've known families that keep secrets all the time.

Well, I don't think they are because they're telling everybody, you know, kind of stuff,

but they think they are.

So I think, no, I don't think it is.

And I think you've got to draw a boundary there.

I say, you know, we just, I can't do that.

Please don't tell me those things because I'm not going to keep a secret from my husband.
