Two weeks ago, it started as a routine, and according to the preacher, Lackluster,

Chapel Service at Asbury University, became something remarkable when instead of heading

off to class, students stayed.

Services have continued ever since, with people traveling from near and far, to join in prayer,

repentance and song.

Now, what's being called a revival by some and an awakening by others, has spread to

other Christian colleges as well.

For the past few days, echoed revivals that were experienced on other Christian college

campuses in recent history, including on the campus of Wheaton College in 1995, and at

Asbury, in 1970 and 1950.

Each case featured spontaneous student expressions of confession and praise.

At Asbury, many who experienced the 1970 revival have been praying ever since for it to happen

again.

Revivals have been a consistent, distinct feature of American religious life ever since

our nation's founding, even before.

The first great awakening in the early 1700s was part of a larger, transatlantic time of

renewal centered on personal conversion, a move that ended up having a transformative

effect on the emerging American consciousness.
