He thinks of his birthday as the complete onion day. So it's the day that he completes an onion or completes a year of his life.

The word for birthday in Spanish is Cumpleannios. Now it does end with the letter S,

but it is a singular word. So my birthday would be my cumpleanios.

Joel also has a rolled up calendar calendar near the mace near the back of the room.
