You might have noticed that in some Christian circles, there's been a lot of talk about political theology.

What obligation does a civil government have to the church and how should we as Christians relate to the state?

In this video, I want to hear some 17th century wisdom on political theology from a well-known pastor and theologian

named John Owen.

In 1658, John Owen preached a sermon in the Commons House of Parliament titled

The Glory and Interest of Nations Professing

the Gospel. He argued that the glory of a nation does not rest in its numbers, wealth, or laws,

nor does it rest in a nominal adherence to the faith. Rather, its destiny is wrapped up in the

remnant of believers within it. Quote, if the bare profession of the truth would render a nation glorious, oh, how glorious

were this nation.

So would have been the people of old who cried, the temple of the Lord, the temple of the

Lord.
