| 0:00.0 | Welcome to the Dr. Berg's Healthy Keto and Interminute Fasting Podcast, where Dr. Berg takes you on the journey for the truth about getting healthy and losing healthy weight. So my question today is, are you getting enough sulfur in your diet? And what is |
| 0:28.0 | sulfur? And what is it good for? And how would this apply to your health? Well, sulfur is |
| 0:31.9 | really, really important in several aspects. Number one, it's needed to make two very important amino acids. Okay, one's called |
| 0:40.9 | methionine, and the other one is called cysteine. Now, methionine is an essential amino acid, |
| 0:46.7 | which means you must get it from your diet. Your body cannot make it. Yet cysteine can be made |
| 0:52.3 | from your body, but you need sulfur to make both of these |
| 0:55.3 | amino acids. And sulfur is also very important in making the antioxidant glutathione, which has a very |
| 1:03.6 | important function in detoxification, especially in your liver, for many different things. In fact, |
| 1:09.2 | if you're deficient in glutathione, |
| 1:11.6 | you're going to build up too much hydrogen peroxide and that can actually lead to a whole bunch of things. |
| 1:16.6 | One being your hair becomes prematurely gray and you're just kind of a hard time clearing toxins from the body. |
| 1:24.6 | Sulfur is very necessary in making keratin, which is essential for your hair, |
| 1:30.3 | nails, and skin. It gives the structure of your skin. So if you're not getting enough |
| 1:36.9 | keratin because you don't have enough sulfur, your skin's going to become loose. Sulfur |
| 1:42.0 | is necessary in making insulin. And if you've been watching any of my videos, |
| 1:46.7 | you know how important that is. Number three, it's involved in collagen synthesis. So without sulfur, |
| 1:52.1 | you can't make collagen, which makes up your joints. And if you're deficient in that, |
| 1:56.5 | you're going to have all sorts of problems with joints, joints falling apart. And this is why a lot of |
| 2:01.3 | the supplements for joints involve sulfur. Also, methyonine has been known to decrease |
| 2:06.7 | kidney stones in dogs. So if your dog has kidney stones, start giving it methionine. |
| 2:13.2 | Thinine is important in keeping your histamines low to prevent allergies. So some people take |
| 2:19.1 | pethionine to help with allergies and even asthma. And number seven, it's intimately involved in |
