Summary

Is the Bible just about encouragement, living "your truth," seeking personal happiness, finding your identity, and manifesting your desires? Popular Christian YouTuber, Melissa Dougherty, join Frank to discuss her brand new book, 'Happy Lies,' and how the profound (yet often unnoticed) beliefs of the New Thought movement have made its impact on the modern Church. During their conversation, Frank and Melissa will tackle questions like:* What is the purpose of life according to the New Thought movement?* What's the difference between New Thought and New Age?* Is there a connection between New Thought and the Word of Faith movement?* Should Christians recite affirmations?* What do adherents of New Thought mean by "Christ Consciousness"?* What are some of the key verses that are used in the New Thought movement and how are they twisted to deceive Christians? If you’ve never heard of New Thought, this episode will uncover how its teachings deceptively infiltrate Christian culture, distort Scripture, and subtly influence your worldview. Could some of the most well-known pastors be peddling New Thought in the pulpits of America today? Tune in next week for the surprising answer in the midweek podcast and make sure you pre-order a copy of Melissa's book, 'Happy Lies'!Resources mentioned during the episode:Melissa's Book - 'Happy Lies': https://a.co/d/igzRfqQ (https://a.co/d/igzRfqQ)Melissa's Website: https://www.melissadougherty.co/ (https://www.melissadougherty.co/)Melissa's YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/c/MelissaDougherty/ (https://www.youtube.com/c/MelissaDougherty/)

And sometimes people will be honest and say, no. Okay, they're going to decide what they're going to believe based on what their desires are. I get it.

But there are also people out there who do want Christianity to be true, but they are deceived about what Christianity actually is.

the Bible is one of encouragement for you to live your truth, to seek your happiness, to find

your identity quite frequently through sexual freedom, and to think your desires into existence. Now, when I put it that

way, you probably don't. I mean, that sounds just too me-centered. If you're serious about

knowing God in the Bible, you probably wouldn't say that the Bible's main message is what I just said.

1:09.1

Yet those kinds of me-centered messages have crept into the thinking of Christians,

1:16.5

and some of those messages are even preached from the pulpit.

1:21.4

But they sound so good, but they are really deceptions.

1:26.4

They are what my guest today calls happy lies.

1:32.1

So who's teaching these happy lies?

1:34.9

Where do they come from?

1:37.3

And how can you avoid being deceived by these happy lies?

1:43.9

And this is a brand new book from a guest we've had before, a good friend of me

1:50.5

and a good friend of this program, the great Melissa Dardy, ladies and gentlemen. She's with us

all the way from her hidden bunker in New Mexico.

2:02.9

The subtitle of Happy Lies is how a movement you probably never heard of shaped our self-obsessed world, and it's even done that in the church.

2:12.7

So what can you do to identify these happy lies?

2:15.4

How can you respond to them?

2:16.5

Melissa is going to tell us, by the way, for those you don't know, Melissa has a great
