When we struggle with self-doubt, it seems as if succeeding in life or even simply surviving is all about us,

about our capacities or seeming lack of them.

But the most profound power undergirds our ability to make progress, namely divine power.

It's leaning on the belief in a lesser power than God that's problematic. to make progress, namely divine power.

We can know that in whatever way self-doubt whispers into thought,

I am you, it isn't us or our thinking.

While this may be a new thought to us, we are truly created to honour God in knowing and proving that there is no other power than God. This is not replacing a can-do

outlook with a can-do spirit. It's the profound admission to ourselves that God is spirit and that we are

spiritual, created in God's image. Some time ago, trusting the alness of God helped me overcome

distrust in my abilities. When I was invited to address a large audience on a topic

I felt was too much of a stretch for me. As I tried to calm my doubts, I drew a blank,

until Christ, God's assurance of his timeless authority, lifted my thought from feeling personally inadequate to pondering

God's infinite allness. I asked myself, is it possible that the day after the talk, you'll look

back and say that God wasn't all in all yesterday.

As Mary Baker-Eddy says in Science and Health with Keats' scriptures,

a knowledge of the science of being develops the latent abilities and possibilities of man.

It extends the atmosphere of thought, giving mortals access to broader

and higher realms. It raises the thinker into his native air of insight and perspicacity.

Every one of us is created to honour, not dishonour God.
