It's a great pleasure to have you on the show. Listen for your well-known in the United States,

Lesso here in the UK. So tell everybody a little bit about who are you? How are you where you are?

What has been your journey through life? Yeah, well as you point out, I'm Karl Hart.

I'm a researcher scientist professor at Columbia University. My expertise are in drugs.

That is study in drugs and people trying to understand the effects of drugs, what they do,

what they don't do. I came to this area because I was concerned about drugs,

destroying my community in the 1980s. At least that's what we were told. In the 1980s,

I was in the UK serving in the US military and getting reports back from home

where that crack cocaine was destroying communities like the one from which I came.

And so I started to study psychology and neuroscience in order to have a better understanding

how drugs affect the brain. I figured that if I could alter the way that drugs like cocaine

affect the brain, that I could probably develop some treatments. And if I develop some treatments,

then I could start to go a long way in solving the problems that I thought were caused by drugs

in my community, problems like unemployment, violence, a wide range of problems that were attributed

to drugs. Some 30 years later, I have come to the conclusion that we all got hoodwinked.
