Hello again, I'm Armin Alney, and this is To the Point from Public Radio International.

A daily look at the issues, Americans care about most.

Russian forces have moved further into Georgia's rebellious province of South Ossetia,

despite George's call for a ceasefire.

George's president, Shokosvili, ran for cover, saying Russian planes were flying over the presidential palace in his capital city.

President Bush has denounced what he calls Russia's disproportionate

response to explosive hostilities in the region. On To the Point, we'll catch up with events

and get the background on a long-running local dispute with international implications. What are

America's interests in a dispute between Russia and a former Soviet Republic? What's the possible impact on the campaign for president?

Hello again, Wamanalny, back with Two, the Poet. As Russian troops moved further into his country and bombs fell close to his capital city,

George's President Mikhail Sarkasvili described Russia's actions this way.

It is so clear what's happening. We are in the process of invasion, occupation,

and annihilation of an independent, democratic country. Sarkasvili ended his news conference by saying

he had to seek shelter because Russian planes were flying over the presidential palace.
