Three minutes after ten and a very good morning to you. It's April 2nd 2020 and there's still no real certainty about when this remarkable period in British history will come to an end.

The front pages, as I mentioned a moment ago, are almost united in their criticism of Boris Johnson

and far be it from me to swim in the opposite direction. But there does still seem to be an awful

lot of confusion surrounding what testing actually is, what testing can actually do. And of course,

also on the question of why we aren't operating on a level more comparable to

Germany. Some of those questions seem to me to be category errors. We may delve a little further

into some of these issues later in the program. I suspect like me, you'll be very relieved to

learn that I'm planning on doing mystery hour at 12 o'clock today.

It's about a month, you know. That means that we haven't talked about anything else.

We haven't talked about anything except coronavirus.

On the program now, for almost as long as anybody can remember.

And I mean, while it is by far the single most important issue facing us at the moment, there is something, I don't know, quite dispiriting about the way that it continues to exclude everything else from our time together every day.

So for mental health reasons, as much as anything else we will be

know the line that I most applaud in the news today is probably this one Rishi

Sunak the Chancellor will announce tomorrow an overhaul of the government's

bailout scheme for business in response to mounting criticism. Isn't it strange how that

resonates in the climate of current politics, regardless of party? The idea that you respond

to mounting criticism by perhaps retuning know, retuning, by perhaps

recalibrating the machine, by having a look at whether or not things could perhaps be done

better, whether or not the criticism might be valid.

There are some suggestions now that the UK and America have been pursuing what looked more like a PR strategy than a PH strategy, PHB, public health.
