It's been a year of awe-inspiring upheaval and horrific violence in the Middle East.

In Syria, the regime of Bashar al-Assad fell with astonishing suddenness,

a major offensive by Hayat, Tahrir al-Sham, bringing to an end the tyrant's 13-year-long

campaign of terror and atrocity against his own people. The war, aided and abetted by Russia,

had killed half a million people and generated a refugee crisis that has destabilized Europe.

In Israel, Netanyahu's overwhelming retaliation against Hamas for the October

the seventh atrocities, with its appalling cost in civilian lives, has come at least to a temporary

end, with January ceasefire and the exchange of prisoners and hostages. But Hamas is defiant,
