| 0:00.0 | Hello and welcome to The Week Junior Show. I'm Bex and I'm joined by writers Joe and Eve from |
| 0:06.6 | the Week Junior, the magazine Making Sense of the World for 8 to 14 year olds. This week, we've got |
| 0:11.8 | loads to chat about, including a monkey's cuddly friend, a charity founder who's made a difference |
| 0:16.6 | in Sudan, and whether audiobooks are better than reading. Now make sure you're listening closely |
| 0:21.5 | because at the end of this episode, we'll be asking a question about what you've heard, and if you |
| 0:26.1 | answer it correctly, you could win a prize. Now, in this week's issue of the magazine, there's |
| 0:30.7 | lots of World Book Day content on the Book Club pages, and it got me thinking, what book |
| 0:35.5 | character would you guys dress up as for World Book Day this year? Eve, who would you pick? Well, I think our listeners know that I'm a big fan of the Percy Jackson books. I go on about them all the time. So I'm going to have to go for the main character and I would love to dress up as Percy Jackson. And it would be an easy costume because you just need an orange Camp half blood t-shirt. So yeah, I'd have to go for Percy Jackson. An excellent choice. Okay, |
| 0:58.9 | Joe, how about you? Well, I'd just say I've got an orange camp half blood t-shirt if you ever need |
| 1:04.1 | one, Eve. So, yeah, there you go. But yeah, growing up, I loved the series of unfortunate events, series of books. And obviously, there's a film and a TV series for a reference now, too. So I probably go as Count Olaf, maybe wear a waistcoat or something like that, make myself look a bit sinister. It's probably not a costume that people would be immediately, would immediately recognize. So I'd probably have to tell them who I was, but that's fine. I could do |
| 1:27.6 | that. I could explain the books to them. You know what? I think that's the point of World Book Day. It doesn't have to be recognisable. It just has to be a book that you love and people ask you, and then you can start a conversation about books. I think that's the best thing. I'd previously, for World Book Day have dressed up as Dennis the Menace |
| 1:42.7 | and wears Wally, so I do like my big costumes. |
| 1:45.5 | But, not to name drop, guys, but I just interviewed A.F. Stedman from the Scandar series. And a lot of our listeners and readers might know, the last book in the series came out earlier this year. And there is a World Book Day book set in the World of Scandar coming out this year as well. And I asked A.F. Deadman about whether people dress up as her characters. And she said yes, because you can just wear all black and then a different coloured jacket and sometimes make your own like elemental badge. So she was like, it's actually a pretty easy costume. So I think, you know what, to celebrate the last book of the series, I think I'd do a Scandar-based |
| 2:17.7 | costume. How do you feel about that, guys? |
| 2:19.3 | That sounds very cool. Sounds amazing, yeah. I've interviewed A.F. Stedman a couple of times, too, and yeah, she's such a lovely person, and the series sounds just so great and so fun. And it's really taken off, hasn't it? It's sort of adored by people across the country and further afield now. |
| 2:36.1 | My dad loves them. |
| 2:37.8 | Wow. Exactly. My point. My point. My point's down. There you go. He's a big fan. I get them every birthday and Christmas. He gets a Scandar book. There you go. So maybe, you know what? Maybe more people will be dressing up a Scandar this year because they're just getting bigger and bigger. If you are dressing up a Scandar or any other characters from your favourite books, please do tell us. We want to know what you're wearing for World Book Day this year. I reckon some people have planned it ages in advance. You can send us an email to hello at theweekjunior. Or leave a a voice note at funkidslive.com slash the week junior. Just grab a grown-up, look for that big red button and record your voice. And if your voice note is played out next week, you could win a Week Junior roving reporter badge. Now last week, we asked listeners what their favorite Pokemon was. We got a message here from Aurelia. Hi, the week, junior. My name's Aurelia, and my favourite Pokemon is Jigglypuff, because she sings really beautifully and when she's mad, she draws on people's faces. Bye-bye. Love your show. I'd forgotten about Jigglypuff Yes, oh, really, that's a great shout. |
| 3:41.6 | Thank you so much for that one. |
| 3:42.9 | We had another message here from Henry. |
| 3:44.7 | Hello, Weak, Juner. |
| 3:46.2 | My name's Henry, and my favourite Pokemon is Pikachu, |
| 3:51.5 | because he just bonds with us so nicely, and he's just so cute. |
