My name is Dan Koch. Like many of you, I've been on a complicated faith journey for a number of years now.

And while I tend to find myself on the progressive side of Christianity, my goal is not to make liberal converts.

I want this show to be a resource for Christians to my right and to my left, as well as

former Christians and non-religious folks, anyone who finds themselves asking difficult questions

about God, science, prayer, fate, suffering, evangelism, and more. So many of us have been given bad answers to those good questions, often by people

with pure intentions.

I want to say that you have permission to take both Christianity and the modern world

very seriously.

And I hope to facilitate that by introducing you to people seeking God across

the Christian spectrum, engaging hard questions in a multitude of ways. Thanks for listening.

I wanted to pop in at the top here with a quick note.

One of the things that comes up in my conversation today with Greg about the spiritual but not religious is that for a lot of those people, the number one concern having left a religion or just not being involved in a

religious community is where to find community. Religion is often a one-stop shop for all kinds of

social connection and just all the things we think of when we think of in person, lived in community. And that's a real

problem. If you are no longer getting those needs met in a community like that, I wanted to let

you know, upcoming we've got a Q&A episode. This is, I believe actually, next week's episode,

where Kristen Tidman, who does media and marketing stuff for us, is actually kind of asking me some listener questions.

And the big one that we tackle at the most length is a question about where to find in-person community after being exiled from a religious community.
