Well, what a day, what a day. It's beautiful again. It's very cold, a bit icy.

They've had about half a millimeter of snow in Manchester, The claim is that leveling up has gone to more places in the south than it has to the north. Slightly disingenuous, slightly troublemaking story, because I'd have to say this.

While The Times is, of course, a wonderful newspaper, what they have said is not entirely right.

It depends on how you measure it, right? Because Michael Goh was on this morning talking to Julie Hartley Brewer, amongst other various interviews that he did. And he says, the reason that leveling up

looks as though there's more money going to the south than the rid of the north is because there's

more people in the south. So if you look at it per head of population, you get more money going to

places with more people because it just simply works out that way. And there are plenty of places

in the south, don't forget, that are just as deprived as there are places in the north. And I think it's kind of rather,

I would say, ridiculous and rather sort of condescending to assume that just because places

are in the north of England, they're somehow worse off than places in the south. But I've got

a more interesting view, actually, because I've been looking at where some of this money is going and I can tell you you will be absolutely gobsmacked when you see how

much money there is knocking around for all sorts of projects. How about a footbridge in

Peterborough to go to the railway station? I presume it goes over the railway, right, and a new

entrance to the railway station. You know how much they've got to want for that? 49 million quid.
