May 7th was the second anniversary of the passing of my dear friend Mickey Gilly

and Mickey Gilly was a special man lived to be 86 years, which surprised even him toward the end.

This is a man who, while flying his own airplanes, crashed twice and lived to tell about it.

Most people that crash a plane once don't live to tell about it.

He did it twice.

And most people when they crash a plane, think twice about whether they're going to fly one again, but he continued to do it.

T tells you a lot about the kind of guy he was.

Mickey was in studio several years ago and we did a sit-down interview was one of my favorite

days in all of radio it's a whole lot of fun and I kept trying to get him to cut me a spot that said,

Mickey, this is Mickey Gilly, and you're listening to the Tsar of Talk.

But when I wrote Tsar of Talk, I'm not Russian, so I spelled it CZAR instead of T-S-A-R.

And so I said you're listening, I wrote it out for him to read and he read it as Caesar and I said no no Mickey it's

czar but as many people do he got a mental block from what he was reading and then he said oh czar okay so it's a C czar no no it's just czar

So I rewrote it and took the sea off but by that time we were too far gone down that road and we laughed about that and laughed and laughed and that night he said well if you just told me ZAR I said I did I shouldn't have written it down I should have just put

Z a R and been done but anyway this was that interview in our studio and it was a whole

lot of fun and and we miss Mickey Gillie so. I don't know there's a bigger thrill for me

than watching Mickey Gilly come walking into my studio. I have arrived.
